Airbnb Pool Safety Checklist

A pool is one of the most booked amenities — and one of the biggest liabilities. Drowning is silent and fast, and young children are most at risk. Use this checklist before every stay so the barrier, gate and rescue equipment are verified, not assumed.

Why it matters

  • US Consumer Product Safety Commission guidelines recommend a barrier at least 4 ft (48 in) high around residential pools, with self-closing, self-latching gates that open outward away from the pool.
  • The US National Electrical Code requires GFCI protection for outlets near pools and for pool equipment, because water and electricity are a lethal combination.
  • In the UK, holiday lets with pools are expected to manage pool risks in line with HSE guidance, including supervision advice, signage and rescue equipment.
